University of Belgrade – Faculty of Political Sciences


The University of Belgrade is the oldest and largest university in Serbia, comprising of 31 faculties, 11 research institutes, University Library and 7 university centres, with more than 90 000 students and more than 2 500 teachers. The University of Belgrade is a public university. Its activities – higher education and scientific research – are of public interest and are defined by law. Faculties of the University are separate legal persons, i.e. they have their own management bodies whose responsibilities are regulated by the Law on Universities, as business and financial independence from the University. Apart from its coordinating function, the University has some law regulated responsibilities to its members as well, above all, to create uniform criteria and control the quality of work. The University of Belgrade signed the Bologna declaration and has agreed to become a part of the Common European Education Area.

For over 40 years the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Political Sciences has been a leading institution of higher education and a modern and open school of democracy and democratic political culture. It has repeatedly proved to be capable of raising the quality of contemporary political debates and of shaping major political developments in our region and its international environment. It was established in 1968 as the first school in this field in the former Yugoslavia. The Faculty focuses on education and research in the fields of political science, international relations, journalism and communication studies, and social policy and social work. There are over 90 full-time academics, while distinguished foreign and domestic experts regularly visit the school.

Since its foundation, 8,100 students have graduated from the Faculty, 975 have completed MA programmes and 464 have defended their PhD theses.
